Ultrasonography Services

We have mobile ultrasound scanners which means that we can perform an ultrasound scan at your yard or at the clinic. Ultrasound waves are used mainly to assess the soft tissue structures of an area. We most commonly use ultrasound to scan the tendons in a leg to investigate a lameness or to monitor rehabilitation of an injury. It can also be used through the rectum as part of a reproductive examination in broodmares and to examine the bladder. Due to the lack of radiation, it is safe for anyone to observe an ultrasound scan. 

In order to get the best image when scanning externally we often have to clip the hair. We will then clean the area thoroughly to remove any dirt and grease from the skin. Then ultrasound gel is applied to the area which creates a good contact between the scanning probe and the structure being scanned.
